Temperament and Behavior
The personality and character of this pug mix is a combination of both parent’s temperament. Hugs are known to be a happy pet who is adorable, intelligent, friendly, outgoing, and charming.
Inheriting the pug-like traits and friendliness, these dogs are highly affectionate to their family members. At times some Hugs can be lazy sitting in its bed, sleeping or dozing which can cause obesity.
They are very friendly with kids and other pets. A Hug is also likely to be a loyal companion and is an extremely alert breed, making great watchdogs.
Some hug dogs might not feel very comfortable living in small living spaces, a trait inherited from their Siberian Husky parents, especially if it is large in size.
Care ~ Exercise
Siberian Huskies are high energy dogs and the Pug tends to have a low energy level. Thus the Hugs may have a moderate to high energy level. Owing to their high level of energy, these active dogs are classified as working dogs who need a significant amount of exercise daily.

Take your pet out for a leashed walk every day for an hour or so. Setting out for a long jogging with your dog would also be a good idea. Families with open yards or large secure gardens work great for Hugs who have high energy levels.
Grooming & Maintanence
- The Hug may have a medium to long coat depending on his genes. He should be brushed or combed out weekly to remove dead hair and to keep his fur shiny. If your Hug has thick, long hair it may need to be brushed out several times a week to prevent matting.
- Flopped, dropped ears need to be cleaned weekly.
- His nails should be trimmed regularly, overgrown nails can cause pain.
- His teeth should be brushed weekly to prevent bad breath and tartar build-up.
- If your pooch has folds on his face they should be wiped daily, taking care to dry them thoroughly to keep them clean.
- The Hug should only be bathed when they are dirty or every few months.
Health Problems
The expected life span for a Hug is approximately 12 to 15 years. A Pugsky is usually a healthy dog breed, with no particular health issues.
Some concerns owing to their parental lineage may be:
- Entropion
- Cataracts
- Hip Dysplasia
- Hypothyroidism
- Mast Cell Tumors
Training
Proper training is just as crucial as regular exercise for the Husky Pug Mix. You may need some patience when it comes to training Hug puppies, as many of these hybrids inherited the willfulness of the Siberian Husky.
Positive reinforcement goes a long way in getting the Hugs to behave. It also helps to train your puppy as early as possible and rewarding them for good behavior.
Some Hug dogs have couch-potato tendencies owing to their Pug genetics. You can get rid of this laziness by using treats, toys, and games to get your dog moving.
Diet/Feeding
Highly nutritious dog foods are recommended for this active canine breed. But the diet schedules must be set keeping in mind our dog’s size. Controlling your Hug’s diet is important if he takes after his Pug parent and can’t tolerate heavy exercise as they are prone to obesity.
